It's a genuine urban surf spot, a short metro ride from the historic centre, and popular enough that it has its own dedicated local crew who surf it daily regardless of the weather. Conditions favour a clean groundswell with light wind; onshore days turn it choppy fast, this being the more exposed, northern part of the metro area.

Espinho

A proper seaside town half an hour south of Porto, built almost entirely around its long, consistent beach break. Espinho has a string of jetty-defined peaks running along its boardwalk, giving a more organised, defined wave than the shifting open beaches nearby, each jetty creating its own reliable peak.

It's one of the more consistent beach breaks in northern Portugal, picking up swell from a wide window and holding decent size and shape thanks to the groyne system. The town itself has a classic old-school seaside feel, a boardwalk, a casino, and surf shops that have been here for decades.

Come on a clean groundswell with light wind for the best shape, and expect a dedicated local surf community that treats Espinho as seriously as any bigger-name break further south. It's a genuinely good, underrated wave for those willing to skip the crowds of the west coast.
