The longest beach in the Basque Country, and one of the most consistent, crowd-absorbing waves in northern Spain. Zarautz breaks over sand along a genuinely long stretch of coast, with enough room and enough peaks that even a busy day rarely feels overcrowded.
It's a superb all-round wave, holding decent shape across a wide range of swell sizes and directions, which has made it the region's default learn-to-surf beach and a favourite for longboarders and shortboarders alike. Multiple named peaks run the length of the beach, from mellower sections near town to punchier options further along.
Come at almost any tide on almost any swell, this is one of the most dependable waves in Spain. A great base to explore the rest of Gipuzkoa, with San Sebastián's food scene just a short drive away.

A genuine city wave in the middle of one of Spain's most beautiful urban settings. Zurriola breaks over sand right in San Sebastián, a short walk from the old town's pintxos bars, giving punchy, well-shaped peaks framed by Kursaal's modern cube buildings rather than any wild coastline.
The wave holds up surprisingly well for an urban beach, picking up decent swell and offering enough power to satisfy intermediate and advanced surfers, not just a token city ripple. Being right in the city, it draws a large, committed local crew and a constant flow of visiting surfers.
Come on almost any swell for a satisfying session, then walk straight into some of Spain's best food. A rare case of a genuinely good wave doubling as a proper city beach, San Sebastián's surf culture runs deep.
